The Character:
Vanya is the odd one out of the group of academy kids as she is portrayed as the “ordinary” one who does not have any supernatural powers like her adoptive siblings. As the show progresses, you see that she is left out of many of the group’s activities, leading to a life of depression and isolation. The only solace she finds is in music, becoming a concert violinist. She meets a man by the name of Leonard, who for the first time in her life, shows her love. This is unfortunately short lived as the truth of his intentions and obsessions reveal themselves.

- Alias: Also known as “The White Violin” and “Number Seven.”
- Spoilerific extras: With Leonard’s help, Vanya finds that she does have powers, but they are vast and difficult to control. With the apparent ability to convert sound waves into an unlimited source of energy that she can harness and control, she quickly becomes an unstoppable force. The rest of the academy soon realizes that it is their own sibling whom they have isolated and excluded for years, that is the cause of the apocalypse.

The Umbrella Academy Background:
The Umbrella Academy has amassed massive popularity with the debut of the 2019 Netflix series, inspired by the comic series written by My Chemical Romances’ Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá. Currently, the series is comprised of 3 volumes, titled Apocalypse Suite, Dallas and Hotel Oblivion. Initial comic release spanned from 2006 to as recently as this year. A hit Netflix adaptation premiered in February 2009 and its massive popularity is showing no sign of slowing down.
