The Thing, or formally known as Benjamin “Ben” Grimm is a member of Marvel’s Fantastic Four superhero team. After being exposed to, depending on the story arc, an inter-dimensional or inter-planetary radiation he develops rocky-orange skin and superhuman strength. Known best for this, he is a popular character due to his blue eyes, humorous antics and famous battle cry, “It’s clobberin’ time!” Creators Stan Lee and Jack Kirby related that the character was influenced by the real world Jimmy Durante. As a character The Thing has been ranked 18 on IGN’s list of Top 100 Comic Book Heroes in 2011 and number 23 on IGN’s list of The Top 50 Avengers in 2012. He has also been listed as number 10 Empire magazine’s list of The 50 Greatest Comic Book Characters.
Assembling The Thing Costume is one of the more difficult cosplay options. His primary costume pieces include a rock-face mask and fantastic four blue shorts. One iconic piece of his costume is either the vintage/retro, movie, or comic version of the Fantastic Four “4” Patch located in the center of the shorts. He is an excellent character for group cosplay’s and can either be executed with a minimalist approach or a more intensive DIY option. For the minimalist approach we have provided an orange body suit, assorted adult mask and chest pieces and foam covers for your hands and feet. For a more DIY version you can use our fabric paint set and use the base orange body-suit as a bottom layer for a painted rock look.
