Red Skull, real name Johann Schmidt, is a villain and archenemy of Captain America in the Marvel Universe. Created by part of the dynamic duo, his existence was due to the combined effort of Joe Simon, Jack Kirby, and France Herron. He made his first appearance in comic Captain America number 7 published in October 1941. Showing a great historical significance in western media, he is portrayed as a Nazi agent, working with Hitler to find new sources of power to push the tide of War with the U.S. and Europe. He has been portrayed in comics, video games and live action media. His character has been played by Scott Paulin in the film Captain America circa 1990 and most notably the incredibly talented Hugo Weaving in the movie Captain America: The First Avenger circa 2011. As a character Red Skull has been ranked number 21 on Wizard Magazine’s Top 100 Greatest Villains Ever list and number 14 on IGN’s Greatest Comic Book Villain of All Time.
Creating your own Red Skull Costume will be a fun option that will give you more experience in not only cosplaying, but DIY masks and face paint. Primary costume items include his iconic and defining red skull in place of regular facial features, some combination of World War 2 era clothing and assorted Hydra symbols. Secondary costume items include a german officer hat, black leather trench coat with a mandarin style collar and buttons, a german replica luger pistol, and either a red/black or black/white hydra belt buckle with coordinated patches.
