Jabba the Hutt is the antagonistic slug that pulls the strings behind Han Solo’s purse strings in the first installment of the original Star Wars trilogy. Renowned as an type of gangster, he controls the world of Tatooine, the home world of the one and only Anakin Skywalker. Although pivotal in the prequel trilogy, he first appears in the original trilogy. Described as movie critic Roger Ebert as a cross between a toad and the Cheshire Cat, this slug like alien is present in all three movies. As we stated he was iconically introduced in Return of the Jedi (1983), and mentioned in Star Wars (1977) and The Empire Strikes Back (1980). In these movies he is described as having a “grim sense of humor, an insatiable appetite, and affinities for gambling, slave girls, and torture.” In Princess Leia’s arguably most popular scene he captures her and forces her to wear the widely appreciated Slave Leia outfit. After unsuccessfully rescuing Han Solo from his carbonite prison, imposed upon him by Darth Vader in Episode V, she is forced into slavery by the foul Jabba. Here the two are forced to wait to be rescued by the now more than capable Jedi Luke Skywalker. He returns in the after produced prequel trilogy as the crime lord of Tatooine and the one responsible for the slave trade presence that gave way for the backstory of Anakin Skywalker. Without the crime and slavery backing of the Hutts on this planet, who is to say Anakin would have had the same motivation after the events of his mothers demise…
