Sooraya Qadir is a mutant from Afghanistan and a Sunni Muslim with the power to turn into sand-like dust. With this power she is able to transform and control a malleable sand form which she uses to kill her kidnappers when slave traders take her from her mother. The X-Men are made aware of this event and quickly race to Afghanistan to rescue her. Once she’s safe, she is taken to the Xavier Institute where she is introduced to other mutants and becomes a member of the X-Men. While she’s has a difficult time adjusting with other mutants and encounters Magneto disguised as Xorn. Dust is often looked at as a positive example of a Muslim character in a comic book. Dust is a well known character in the X-Men universe not only because of he cool power over sand, and being able to turn herself into sand, but she introduces cosplay options for those of the Islamic faith. If you are interested in cosplaying but have restrictions or preferences on skin coverage and modesty, she is the character for you. Her primary costume is comprised of the majority of her body being covered in black fabric, with the addition of a Niqab head and partial face cover.
