The Princess Bride is the greatest love story ever told. It originated as a fantasy novel written by William Goldman in 1973 which was adapted into a feature film in 1987. Starring Peter Falk as the Grandpa and narrator who reads the story to his sick grandson played by a young Fred Savage. The infamous couple is played by Robin Wright as Princess Buttercup and Cary Elwes as Westley and the Dread Pirate Roberts. Throughout the story they are separated by fate wherein Buttercup is betrothed to Prince Humperdinck played by Chris Sarandon. She is kidnapped by thieves looking for a ransom by the crown, and when things seemed their darkest a dark figure appeared on the horizon. Following the kidnappers was the Dread Pirate Roberts, a fearsome man with a frightening reputation. When Buttercup’s love is revealed, Westley tells her the true story of Roberts. “Roberts had grown so rich, he wanted to retire. He took me to his cabin and he told me his secret. ‘I am not the Dread Pirate Roberts’ he said. ‘My name is Ryan; I inherited the ship from the previous Dread Pirate Roberts, just as you will inherit it from me. The man I inherited it from is not the real Dread Pirate Roberts either. His name was Cummerbund. The real Roberts has been retired 15 years and living like a king in Patagonia.'” as recalled by Westley.
