Zapp Brannigan is a recurring character on the hit show Futurama. Introduced as a 25-Star General in the Democratic Order of Planets, he immediately causes friction among the Planet Express by hitting on Leela, most often in front of Fry. The captain of the flagship of the order, the Nimbus, Zapp’s ego dominates the agenda of his crews’ destination the majority of the time he is on screen. Portrayed as a respected military hero, he is celebrated by the support of his superiors and the admiration of the public. Described as sexist, vain, inept and cowardly, his “brilliance” in strategy is often called into question as his decisions seem to be run by a choice part of male anatomy. It is revealed that his military success record is namely due to the weak or pacifist nature of his enemies.
Perfect for a couples cosplay or an interesting ménage-a-trois, Zapp and Leela have sex soon after meeting, which is commented on in high regards often by Zapp in his infatuation with following her. Add in Fry’s and Leela’s not-so-subtle attraction to one another and you have a very entertaining love triangle.
