Wednesday Addams is the daughter of Morticia and Gomez Addams and sister to Pugsley and Pubert Addams. She is also the niece of Fester Addams and lives with the family pet Thing, their butler Lurch and her grandmother Grandmama.
She is often seen carrying her Marie Antoinette doll, which is, of course, missing her head. Her brother Pugsley built guillotines to match, at Wednesday’s request. She has been as iconic as her mother as part of the macabre genre since her creation in 1938. As a character, she has been most notably portrayed by in a live action setting by Lisa Loring and Christina Ricci. As described by her creator cartoonist Charles Addams, the family is an ‘inversion’ of the typical american dream family unit. Describing them all in turn, Charles is quoted as saying “Gomez and Pugsley are enthusiastic. Morticia is even in disposition, muted, witty, sometimes deadly. Grandma Frump is foolishly good-natured. Wednesday is her mother’s daughter. A closely knit family, the real head being Morticia—although each of the others is a definite character—except for Grandma, who is easily led. Many of the troubles they have as a family are due to Grandma’s fumbling, weak character. The house is a wreck, of course, but this is a house-proud family just the same and every trap door is in good repair. Money is no problem.” Wednesday specifically was described (again by Charles Addams) as a “Child of woe is wan and delicate…sensitive and on the quiet side, she loves the picnics and outings to the underground caverns…a solemn child, prim in dress and, on the whole, pretty lost…secretive and imaginative, poetic, seems underprivileged and given to occasional tantrums…has six toes on one foot…”
Cresting your own Wednesday Addams Costume will be relatively simple. The most iconic parts of her costume is her perpetually braided long black hair (like her mothers) and her pilgrim style black and white dress.
