The brother in arms to the Mario anti-hero character, Wario, this tall purple clad joker is an alternate favorite for many gamers. Making his first appearance in Mario Tennis, his iconic laugh placed him in several subsequent games. His name is derived from the Japanese words Warui and Ruīji, meaning “bad” and “Luigi,” also his name is an anagram to the word Ijiwaru, which can mean “ill-tempered” or “cruel”. With no defined origin story, what is clear is that this tall, slender, menace opposed Luigi in all things.
His creation was to partner Wario as the opposing character for Luigi, providing an antagonist team for the dynamic duo. Voiced by Charles Martinet, his evil laughter is an iconic part of the Mario Party series, and his series of death scenarios and special moves quickly makes him memorable. All of these factors create a well known cosplay favorite and has inspired our comprehensive guide for creating your own Waluigi Costume.
