Tie fighter pilot’s make up a deadly component of the Imperial fleet. With two twin ion engines (TIE), these crafts are described as fragile, but fast. The iconic space crafts have been featured in all three of the original Star Wars movies, Episode IV: A New Hope (1977), Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983). The design of the tie fighter was given to Industrial Light & Magic’s (ILM), specifically with the ball cockpit designed by Colin Cantwell. Although the initial mock drawings featured the Tie Fighters in a blue color scheme, it was found that the grey gave more detail against the green screen used during filming. As is famous with Lucas Arts, the iconic sound effects made by the tie fighters are a combination of a few odd things, in this case Ben Burtt combined a car driving on wet pavement with elephant call. Variations include Tie Bombers and Tie Intercepters which all are piloted by the same uniformed soldiers. This makes cosplaying with a Tie Fighter Pilot Costume even more iconic. While involving an intricate assortment of costume pieces, luckily these characters are popular enough to have the specialty pieces pre-constructed. All that leaves is the general clothing items, which here at Cosplay Savvy, is our specialty.
