The cult classic 1991 film The Rocketeer is a 1930’s period based superhero film. Produced by Walt Disney Pictures this movie embodies a classic American hero fighting against a group of Russian spies who have infiltrated the US film industry. Created by writer and artist Dave Stevens originally as comic book character stunt pilot Cliff Secord, the live-action adaptation solidified The Rocketeer’s place in Americans super heroes. Starring the previously unknown Billy Campbell in the lead, critics positively responded to the star studded cast of Jennifer Connelly, Alan Arkin, Timothy Dalton, Paul Sorvino and Tiny Ron Taylor. Directed by Joe Johnston the film met with production problems centering around “creative differences” between Disney and screenwriters. Due to its lasting positive reception, talks for a sequel have resumed since 2012.
