Storm, born Ororo Munroe is one of the main recurring mutants in Marvel’s X-Men comics. Created by writer Len Wein and artist Dave Cockrum she first appeared in the comic publication Giant-Size X-Men number one circa May 1975. Although she was not part of the original group of X-Men created by the dynamic duo of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in September 1963, she has gained massive popularity leading her to be in many of the subsequent comic story arcs, animated series and movies. Gifted with the power to control the weather and manipulate air currents allowing her to fly, she is a formidable opponent to any who would challenge the X-Men and their leader Charles Xavier. Although she is best known for her role in the X-Men franchise, her origin story reveals she came from the fictional country of Wakanda. Here, she was former Queen, a title she gained through her marriage to King T’Challa, or better known as the Marvel character Black Panther. She joins Charles Xavier in the founding of the Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, or less formally known as the Xavier Institute, as a teacher and colleague. It was meant to be a safe-haven where mutant children could learn to control their powers and to protect them from the outside world. As reports of mutants become more and more public, hostility towards them leads several mutants to join Magneto to form a more radical group of mutants who are opposed to human integration. She stays with the group following Xavier, including Scott Summers or Cyclops, Jean Grey and Logan or Wolverine.
She has been present for literally decades in comics, animated series and live-action movies. In the original trilogy she was casted as an adult by the gorgeous Halle Berry, who has played the role in four films and counting. In the modern reboot and adaptation she will be played by Alexandra Shipp in X-Men: Apocalypse circa 2016.
Creating your own Storm Costume can be conservative or down right sexy, depending on which version of the decades old character you want to focus on.
