The Silver Surfer was first introduced to Marvel comics as a hero in comic book Fantastic Four number 48 in 1966. Created by Jack Kirby he was envisioned as a silvery humanoid figure with metallic skin atop a surf-board type flying craft. Originally, he was an astronomer named Norrin Radd from the planet Zenn-La. Following the comic story arc in the 2007 movie adaptation, he was responsible for saving his home world from the planet devourer, Galactus, but in turn had to serve him and find other worlds to devour. After rediscovering his humanity after meeting Earth’s Fantastic Four, he turned on Galactus and saved our small blue marble. For this act, he was exiled to remain on Earth. As a character he was ranked 41 on IGN’s Top 100 Comic Heroes list released in 2011.
