Senate Commandos were an elite group of expertly trained soldiers acting within the units of Senate Guards on the planet Coruscant. Stationed in and around the Galactic Senate building and offices based in Coruscant, they were responsible for the administration and enforcement of law by the executive and legislative branches of the Republic government. Also tasked with the general protection of the governing officials staying and residing in Coruscant they were often featured in both the Prequel movie trilogy and the animated series Star Wars: Clone Wars. Some Senate Commandos were designated a bodyguards for specific senators and various politicians. The most elite of these guards were selected to be part of Chancellor Palpatine’s personal protective force, the Imperial Guard, or more commonly known as the Red Guard. As they often carried out the administration of law ordered by the public officials, they would handle and enemies of war that were held on Coruscant and the surrounding planets. As the Clone Wars progressed and Supreme Chancellor Palpatine gained more and more power, they, along with the general Senate Guard and common guardsmen, would be replaced by the more elite Red Guards. Initially this was attributed to the galaxy-wide conflict between the Confederacy of Independent Systems, or the Separatists, and the Grand Army of the Republic. As it would be revealed, these Redrobes (as they were nicknamed) would become the Royal Guards after the fall of the Jedi Order and the creation of the new Galactic Empire.
