Game of Thrones is the name of the massively popular HBO TV show created after the Song of Fire and Ice book series. Written by George R.R. Marten, he has become an icon for fantasy novelists and the concept that no-one is safe. Known for its incredibly story, brutality and plot twisting events, this series gained massive popularity seemingly overnight after being adapted to a live-action platform. With stunning locations the show has been filmed in Northern Ireland, Croatia, Iceland, Morocco, Spain, Malta, Scotland, and the United States. Premiering on April 17, 2011, it has continued to gain fans for its five seasons, with at least two more planned. Set in the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, the game of thrones depicts several ruling families from the seven kingdoms and their back-stabbing, manipulative and brutal efforts to secure the iron throne for themselves. These families include members from House Lannister, Stark, Baratheon, Greyjoy, Targaryen, Tyrell, Tully, Bolton and more to come. Awards granted to this show include several Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Drama Series for its first four seasons, Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Television Series in the category of Drama, Peabody Award, and a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation in both Long Form and Short Form.
Sansa Stark is the daughter of Caitlyn Stark and Lord Eddard Stark, the honorable patriarch of House Stark and the Lord of Winterfell. Her father’s full title is “Lord of Winterfell, Warden of the North, Hand of the King, Protector of the Realm, Regent and the father of six children.” Her mother was Caitlyn Stark, formerly from House Tully, together her parents ruled the North under the approval of their close family friend King Robert Baratheon. Her siblings included Robb Stark, Sansa Stark, Arya Stark, Bran Stark, Rickon Stark and her illegitimate brother Jon Snow. Her life has been a series of tragic events, beginning with her betrothal to King Robert’s son Prince Joffrey Baratheon. After Robert’s death, Joffrey has Sansa’s father beheaded for supposed treason against the crown. After this the Lannister’s were responsible for the murder of her oldest brother and her mother, leaving only a handful of Stark siblings remaining. Now a hostage in Kings Landing, she was forcibly married to Joffrey’s uncle, Tyrion Lannister, who also did not approve of the matching. When Joffrey was murdered for the bloody and violent nature of his reign she fled with seemingly the only person in Westeros that she could trust, long time family friend Lord Peter Baelish. After traveling with him and discovering that he is in love with her, just as he loved her mother, he convinces her to play the game of politics. In order to survive in a world as cruel as that in Game of Thrones, she saw the necessity of this and married Rouse Bolton. House Bolton was now in control of her old home of Winterfell, and the engagement was purely for political gain by the Bolton’s. As she discovered Rouse was more brutal than Joffrey and their matching was short lived. With the conclusion of the most recent season, she fled Winterfell with Theon Greyjoy in hopes of escaping the brutality of her once childhood home.
