Sailor Moon quickly became an iconic part of the movement of Japanese Anime to western audiences when this smash-hit tv and book series hit the American market in the early 1990’s. Originally translated to be Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon or later as Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, this series spanned the years from 1992 to 1997. Lasting five popular seasons, three full-length feature films, one TV special and a live-action TV adaptation, the adventures of the sailor scouts still garner fans of all ages. Centering around the adventures of Japanese school girl, Usagi Tsukino, she finds that she has the ability to transform herself into a being of great power known as a Sailor Scout. She is given this power to search for a legendary princess and artifact known as the “Legendary Silver Crystal” or “Phantom Silver Crystal.” Throughout her adventures, she is joined by fellow scouts Ami Mizuno (Sailor Mercury), Rei Hino (Sailor Mars), Makoto Kino (Sailor Jupiter), and Minako Aino (Sailor Venus). Also joining in their battle against the forces of evil is Mamoru Chiba, taking on the persona of Tuxedo Mask. He will quickly become Usagi’s love interest and eventual father of their child known as Sailor Chibi Moon. Together, they battle against the villains that strive to bring destruction to the solar system.
