Known as Namor the Sub-Mariner, real name Namor McKenzie, he is a member of the species Homo mermanus and is the Aquaman of the Marvel Universe. As such he has super human strength and aquatic abilities. Created by Bill Everett for Funnies Inc. he has been king of the Marvel seas since his first appearance in 1939. Peaking during what was known as the Golden Age of Comic Books, Namor aka the Sub-Mariner was one of Timely Comics top three heroes. They were Namor, Captain America and Fantastic Four’s the Human Torch. As a character his creation was said to be inspired by Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s poem “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.” Even his name, Namor, was supposed to exude royalty, as Everett reports he came up with it by writing old Roman names and titles backwards until he found one he liked.
Creating your own Namor Costume will be simple, especially if you don’t mind showing a bit of skin. He has two main costume options to choose from. The first and most classic version consists of green scale pattern swim trucks and gold wrist cuffs with a matching gold metal belt. The alternate costume includes black compression pants and an open black top, either sleeveless or with sleeves. In most interpretations he is not wearing shoes and is often seen holding a gold trident staff.
