Mera is the wife of longtime Justice League member and one of the most recognizable DC superheroes, Aquaman. His character has been a staple of American comics ever since his creation in 1941. Together they are known for their sea themed powers which include the ability to breathe underwater, the ability to swim at higher speeds and most importantly the ability for him to call upon sea creatures to do their bidding. She is almost exclusively shown in her relationship with Aquaman. Her background reveals that she is not a native to Atlantis, instead she is an amphibious alien from Dimension Aqua. Popularity for this character has continued to grow with the recent casting of Jason Mamoa as Aquaman. He is set to play the undersea superhero in the DC shared film universe.
