Lydia’s Red Dress

Another alternative to the black dress is Lydia’s red dress. This outfit was meant to be Lydia’s wedding gown. Like her other ensembles it’s very much her goth chic style. This is an outfit that I’d recommend getting yourself a Beetlejuice doll to carry just incase your halloween costume is not immediately recognizable.

The Story

Lydia Deetz is the one of the main characters in Tim Burton’s cult classic film Beetlejuice. Bettlejuice is both the man and the movie premiering in 1988. This film is one of Tim Burtons most memorable films. Following the lives of a young married couple Adam and Barbara Maitland, played by Alec Baldwin and the lovely Geena Davis, they are just two small town lovers who set out on a routine errand run into town.

When returning home, to avoid hitting an helpless animal their car runs off the road into a river. Trudging their way back home they arrive and find things slightly…off. Not realizing they both had been killed in the crash they are thrown into a world between the living and the dead. Now ghosts who haunt what was their home. It is here where they meet the enigmatic Beetlejuice. A would be poltergeist teacher and scarier than the prospect that they might actually be dead. Brilliantly played by Michael Keaton. This role set him on the map as a diverse and crazed actor who truly can make a character come to life, while not actually being living.

Soon city slickers Delia, Charles and Lydia Deetz played by Catherine O’Hara, Jeffrey Jones, and Winona Ryder, try to move into the home. Baldwin and Davis elicit Beetlejuice’s help to rid them of these unwanted guests. Saying his name three times they unleash the bizarre wrath that is Tim Burton’s imagination in this fiendishly creative and deadly frightening character.
