Born John Carlton, one of the original Mortal Kombat fighters would be widely known as Johnny Cage. A martial artist and film actor, he is the extremely narcissistic comedic relief of the fighting game series. First appearing in 1992 with the other initial fighters his attitude set him apart from the other more altruistic characters. Appearing in the Mortal Kombat adapted movie, Johnny is a struggling actor whom critics think is a fake. To prove his fighting and martial arts prowess he volunteers to fight in the Mortal Kombat competition. Creating an avenue for one of the few mortal love interest in the game series, he becomes involved with government agent and fellow Mortal Kombat fighter, Sonya Blade. Having a daughter together as the series progresses, she continues in her parents footsteps and is a playable character in subsequent Mortal Kombat games. Made famous by his signature fighting moves, his character was based on the real life actor and martial artist, Jean-Claude Van Damme. Rumored that he turned down the offer to be featured as himself in the first game, Midway produced this insanely self-centered and text book narcissist parody.
