Jawas are a physically small rodent-like scavenging race found on the planet Tatooine. Traveling in massive Sandcrawler transports they particularly love to scavenge anything technological, like droids. The caveat is that the droids neither have to be willing or un-owned for the Jawa’s to take them. Selling droids they find to the local human population they are known for bargaining outdated droids to unsuspecting moisture farmers. A passive species, they are believed to have a common ancestor with the other native dessert dwellers, the Tusken Raiders or Sand People. Unlike the Tuskens, the Jawas did not resist the human colonization of Tatooine and instead saw it as an excellent business opportunity.
In Episode III Jawa’s are responsible for selling C-3PO and R2-D2 Owen Lars, Luke Skywalker’s uncle and caretaker. When cleaning R2D2 Luke discovers Princess Leia’s urgent message to exiled Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. This leads Luke to begin his journey finding Obi-Wan and ultimately setting the stage for the rest of the movie franchise.
The Jawa Costume is a fairly simple one, with the only restriction being the size of the species. This makes these characters excellent for family cosplaying as children make excellent and adorable Jawas. Whether child or adult, just shout the common cry of “Utinni!” and you will be an iconic Jawa in no time!
