Gomez Addams is the gorgeous father of night and ever-seducing husband to Morticia Adams, father to Wednesday, Pugsley and Pubert Addams, and the head of household to Fester Addams, Grandmama, Thing and Lurch. He has been an iconic part of the horror genre for almost a century since his creation in 1938. As a character, he has been portrayed by in a live action setting by the haunting John Astin and the iconic actor Raul Julia. As described by his creator cartoonist Charles Addams, the family is an ‘inversion’ of the typical american dream family unit. Describing them all in turn, Charles is quoted as saying “Gomez and Pugsley are enthusiastic. Morticia is even in disposition, muted, witty, sometimes deadly. Grandma Frump is foolishly good-natured. Wednesday is her mother’s daughter. A closely knit family, the real head being Morticia—although each of the others is a definite character—except for Grandma, who is easily led. Many of the troubles they have as a family are due to Grandma’s fumbling, weak character. The house is a wreck, of course, but this is a house-proud family just the same and every trap door is in good repair. Money is no problem.”
Cresting your own Gomez Addams Costume will be relatively simple, given the base black and white suit. The main iconic things that you must include are his pencil mustache, neat black hair and your choice of the 1960’s black striped suit or the 1990’s black suit pants, shirt and red vest. Other secondary costume items include his cigar, a large brandy glass and whatever assortment of knives, arsenic or other murderous device you so choose.
