Gambit, born Remy Etienne LeBeau is a popular X-Men character gifted with the power to “create, control, and manipulate” kinetic energy and transfer it any object he touches. His signature move comes from doing this to playing cars, namely because they are easy to cary, small and high in number. Created by Marvel comics artist Jim Lee and writer Chris Claremont. Relatively new to the X-Men universe, Gambit’s character was introduced in the comic Uncanny X-Men #266 circa August 1990. Compared to the first X-Men comic produced in 1963, his character has gained wide popularity in a short number of years. With unparalleled talent and accuracy in card throwing, fighting with his Bo staff and hand-to-hand combat, he is a formidable opponent to the X-Men under Charles Xavier. Allying himself with Magneto and his group of mutant fighters, he creates explosive projectiles that he uses in combat. Portrayed as a “ladies’ man” with his suave New Orleans accent he is the on-again-off-again love interest of Rogue. Playing the Romeo and Juliet role in many X-Men story arcs, his association with the Thieves Guild causes tension in their romantic endeavors. As a character he has held a steady role in both X-Men comics, animated series and multiple live-action films since his creation. Most recently his character has been casted to be played by the hunky Channing Tatum under a screenplay by comic-book writer Chris Claremont. This film titled simply “Gambit” comes out sometime in 2016.
