Game of Thrones is the name of the massively popular HBO TV show created after the Song of Fire and Ice book series. Written by George R.R. Marten, he has become an icon for fantasy novelists and the concept that no-one is safe. Known for its incredibly story, brutality and plot twisting events, this series gained massive popularity seemingly overnight after being adapted to a live-action platform. With stunning locations the show has been filmed in Northern Ireland, Croatia, Iceland, Morocco, Spain, Malta, Scotland, and the United States. Premiering on April 17, 2011, it has continued to gain fans for its five seasons, with at least two more planned. Set in the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, the game of thrones depicts several ruling families from the seven kingdoms and their back-stabbing, manipulative and brutal efforts to secure the iron throne for themselves. These families include members from House Lannister, Stark, Baratheon, Greyjoy, Targaryen, Tyrell, Tully, Bolton and more to come. Awards granted to this show include several Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Drama Series for its first four seasons, Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Television Series in the category of Drama, Peabody Award, and a Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation in both Long Form and Short Form.
Eddard, sometimes called Ned Stark is the honorable patriarch of House Stark and the Lord of Winterfell. His full title is “Lord of Winterfell, Warden of the North, Hand of the King, Protector of the Realm, Regent and the father of six children.” Married to Caitlyn Stark, formerly from House Tully, they ruled the North under the approval of his close friend King Robert Baratheon. Their children included Robb Stark, Sansa Stark, Arya Stark, Bran Stark, Rickon Stark and his illegitimate son Jon Snow. After his beheading at the order of King Joffrey Baratheon, his son Robb Stark assembled an army to retake the throne and protect the north. With Robb and Caitlyn killed during a wedding ceremony, that left Sansa, Arya, Jon Bran and Rickon left. Bran and Rickon fled Winterfell as House Greyjoy, then House Bolton took over their families old home. Arya fought her own way to Bravos to learn the ways of the many faced God. Sansa, after held captive in Kings Landing, was spirited away only to find herself married off to Rouse Bolton. A terribly abusive husband she fled Winterfell once more, this time with Theon Greyjoy as her only companion. Bran, given the gift of sight, is discovering his destiny while the youngest Rickon is being protected by a trusted wildling. Although Eddard is long gone, the Stark legacy lives on through his children.
