Dazzler born Alison Blaire is a popular member of Marvel’s X-Men. She was first featured in February 1980 appearing in the comic Uncanny X-Men number 130. Her mutation allows her to convert sound vibrations into energy and light beams. This light conversion gave her the appearance of dazzling, which gave origin to her super hero persona. Created by a committee comprised of Marvel employees Tom DeFalco and John Romita, Jr., Dazzler was written in conjunction with Casablanca Records. Matching her dazzling persona she was introduced as a disco singer, as per the music genres of the time. As the music industry changed, so did her character, shifting her performances from boogie nights to rock and adult contemporary music numbers.
When creating your own Dazzler Costume you will need to decide which era of outfit you want to focus on. Here we have included her black and yellow X-men uniform as well as some options for her white and black outfit. When creating her iconic black X-men bodysuit with the large yellow X or V across the body we have provided two separate DIY options for you. The first is to start with the black bodysuit and use yellow fabric paint to stencil and paint the yellow areas. The second is to use another yellow bodysuit (made of the same material as the black) and to use sewing chalk marker pencils to track the areas where you would need to cut and stitch the yellow X on the black bodysuit, using the black bodysuit as the base layer. When creating the white on black bodysuit option, you may use the same process with the provided white bodysuit or white fabric paint.
