Cyclops, is a popular X-Men character gifted with the power to project laser beams from his eyes. Unfortunately, he was also born without the power to control them, without closing his eyes completely. Created by the dynamic duo of Stand Lee and Jack Kirby, Cyclops has been around since September 1963 with the release of the first X-Men issue number one. He is often regarded as the first of the X-Man and often acts as the groups leader under the guidance of Professor Xavier. Born Scott Summers, he is introduced into the movie franchise as a rebellious teenager clad in dark red sun-glasses. This introduces that without his protective eye-wear he cannot open his eyes for fear of destruction. As a character, he is portrayed as the American archetypal hero and leader, opposing the rugged, strong, antiheroes that were introduced to the series after the real world events of the Vietnam War, namely Wolverine.
Cyclops has been critically regarded since his creation, making him one of the most iconic and popular X-Men for over fifty years. His acclaim includes being rated number one on the “Top X-Men from the past forty Years” by IGN in 2009, number thirty-nine on the “Top 100 Comic Book Heroes” list again produced by IGN in 2011, number 106 on “200 Greatest Comic Book Characters of All Time” by Wizard Magazine, and ninth on a poll by Comic Book Resources of the “Top Marvel Characters” in 2011.
As with any character that has been around as long as Cyclops, there will be multiple eras of costume to choose from. Below we have provided guides to both the classic and modern movie adaptations of the Cyclops Costume.
Note, we have supplied the “Yellow Wrap Belt” for the looped belts on the wrists, upper thighs, and above the boots for the classic Cyclops Costume. Also the “Over-Ear Headphones” are provided to simulate the control dial for Cyclops’ protective eye wear.
