Chun-li is the only female playable character in the second installment of Capcom’s popular game series Street Fighter. She was introduced with the rest of the cast in the game Street Fighter ll, released in 1991. With seemingly instant popularity, she has remained a central character for the rest of the Street Fighter game installments, two films, and many anime and comic books. Working as an interpol officer, she uses her skills in martial arts to clean up the streets of China or British Hong Kong in some variations. Seeking revenge for her father’s murder at the hands of nefarious M. Bison, she takes on everyone that would stand in her way. Her ultimate goal is to take down the leader of the Shadaloo crime syndicate operating in the world of Street Fighter. Known for its iconic blocky animation coupled with think leg and arm muscles in every playable character, this game series has been a fan favorite for over 20 years.
Her outfit is as iconic as the fans series itself and is easily recognizable at a variety of conventions by diverse groups of fans. Named the “first lady of video games” creating your own Chun-Li costume is an excellent option for any comedic male our strong willed female cosplayer.
