Bettlejuice is both the man and the movie premiering in 1988 as one of Tim Burtons most memorable films. Following the lives of a young married couple played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis, they are just two small town lovers who set out on a routine errand run to town. When returning their car runs off the road into a river. Trudging their way back home they arrive and find things slightly…off. Not realizing they both had been killed in the crash they are thrown into a world between the living and the dead, now ghosts who haunt their own home. It is here where they meet Beetlejuice, a would be poltergeist teacher and scarier than the prospect that they might actually be dead. Brilliantly played by Michael Keaton, this role set him on the map as a diverse and crazed actor who truly can make a character come to life, while not actually being living. When city slickers Catherine O’Hara, Jeffrey Jones, and Winona Ryder try to move into the home, Baldwin and Davis elicit Beetlejuice’s help to rid them of these unwanted guests. Saying his name three times they unleash the bizarre wrath that is Tim Burton’s imagination in this fiendishly creative and deadly frightening character.
