Full name, Gial Ackbar is a member of the amphibious species from planet Mon Calamari. Chronologically he is introduced in the animated Star Wars hit show, Clone Wars. Appearing in a saga about civil war between the feuding colonies of aquatic species on Mon Calamari, Ackbar appears in support of prince Lee Char after the king of his people is found assassinated. Believing that the king was killed by the Quarren, the rival species on the planet, the Mon Calamari call for revenge. Believing Prince Char to bee too young to lead the combined people and maintain peace, the Quarren join sides with the Separatists under the brutal leadership of the Shark-like commander of Count Duku, Riff Tamson. In a saga that lasts a few episodes with the Mon Calamari fighting for their freedom, lives and their newly appointed Prince. Starring Asoka, Anakin, Padme, and JarJar, Ackbar fights to keep his Prince safe from the aquatic droid onslaught. Eventually defeating Commander Tamson, Prince Char uncovers a plot that Tamson was the one who murdered his father. This revelation renews the trust between the Mon Calamari and the Quarren, bringing peace to the seas once more.
In the movies Ackbar is promoted to the position of Admiral, which leads to his more famous title. Announcing “It’s a trap” during the Battle of Endor, Ackbar originated the meme we all have seen once or twice.
