The character name Rick Flag actually covers three separate characters, a grandfather, father and son. This does not really affect the cosplay, however as the general Rick Flag Costume has retained the major elements, namely a bright colored shirt/turtleneck.
Originating as a WWII member of a Suicide Squadron, the grandfather Richard Montgomery Flag founded Task Force X for President Harry S. Truman. After marrying and producing Rick Flag Jr., he was killed by an antagonist called War Wheel. Succeeded by his adult son Richard Rogers Flag was chosen to lead the new Suicide Squad. Flag Jr.’s girlfriend Karin Grace secretly bore him a son and gave up the child for adoption so that he would not be affected by the violence in their lives. Initially hating the Squad for the criminals that he was forced to oversee, Flag fought, loosing close friends to protect the secrecy of the suicide squad. Rogers Flag eventually sacrificed himself, like his father for the better good of the Suicide Squad, this time fighting a Jihad team. The final Rick Flag was introduced to the suicide squad still as a boy when kidnapped by Koschei the Deathless, or formerly known as Jess Bright, a teammate of his fathers who was captured and turned into a bionic monster by the Russians. Saved by none other than the Suicide Squad, Rick Flag III is set to continue with the reputation set by two generations of men in his family. Whichever one of these versions you choose, with the increasing DC franchise popularity, so does the need for more con appearances of a successful Rick Flag Costume.
