Joining the scores of recent DC antagonists, Roman Sionis assumed the persona of Black Mask to cover his actions as a crime lord in Gotham. With this came a wicked, and relatively easy cosplay option in creating a Black Mask Costume. Born to a wealthy family who were much more concerned about their social status than raising a son, he grew neglected and left to his own devices. Public friends with the Wayne family, Roman was witness to his parents disdain for them behind closed doors, coming to deeply loathe the “masks” that lying people wear. After falling in love with Circe, a secretary at his fathers company, Roman snapped and burned his childhood home to the ground after his parents shunned the couple. Fortunately for Roman, his parents were in the house at the time and were killed in the blaze. After loosing his families’ fortune in bad investing, Circe broke off their engagement in a very public scene. After none other than Bruce Wayne purchased his company, saving it from bankruptcy, Roman snapped once again this time seeking refuge in his parents tomb. When lightning struck the tomb he took this as a symbol of “rebirth,” carving his signature black mask from his father’s casket.
Playing a significant role in the most recent series of Batman Games, Roman Sionis became a significant antagonist to Batman, and a clever disguise for none other than the Joker. The only thing that would make his costume more epic, would be a well executed Black Mask Costume cosplay.
